Alex is a 7-year-old girl in the second grade. She spends recess talking about diets and complaining with her classmates about how they look. She has trouble thinking of a part of her body that she likes.
Poor body image is a global health concern, and a majority of students feel shame about their bodies. Body image begins to develop at 3 years, and research shows that young boys are at equal risk. Poor body image is a major risk factor for substance abuse, suicidality and self-harm, depression, and eating disorders.
You can help us fight back.
Thanks to the support from our generous donors last year, we presented our prevention programs to over 2000 local schoolchildren! That’s 2000 more youth that now have a lower risk of developing an eating disorder.
But we can’t continue to do this work without you.
Why Give on Erie Gives Day?
